Chicago bridges

Winding through the city it is named after, the Chicago River is crossed by many bridges. The spans vary in design, purpose and size. Together the bridges are testament to the ambitious spirit of Chicago - overcoming obstacles to better live and conduct business unfettered.

Tugboats and barges beneath the Chicago Skyway

Far below the Chicago 
		Skyway is a community of barges and tugboats afloat on the Calumet River

Rush hour drivers on the elevated roadway are unaware of the interesting communities and activities far below them.

		this bridge once carried Ogden Avenue traffic over the Chicago River's 
		North Fork. In the right side background are some of the high rise housing 
		project buildings known as Cabrini Green Carrying Amtrack
		trains out of Chicago, this bridge near Chinatown lifts to allow barges and 
		boats to pass underneath Almost lost in the rubble strewn 
		landscape alongside Fullerton Avenue, a railroad bridge carries trains onto Goose 
		Island.
